Trauma

The impact of trauma may last a life time. When we have been exposed to trauma such as family harm, we can tell ourselves that once safety is restored, we should be fine. Trauma walks around with us though and we can worry about things, feel nervous for little apparent reason and we can get angry really quickly and form relationships with people where there is lots of turmoil and chaos.

When a traumatic event or series of traumatic events happen, the experience is held in our minds and our bodies. When we think our minds are healed, our bodies will still remember the trauma and at times, little things may happen and we have a big response to the little things. This is trauma at play. It can make no sense to our minds yet the body has the heart racing, we feel really tense and overwhelmed and wound up tightly.

Trauma can indeed get better of time given supportive conditions and good relationships but it does take a lot of time. If you think trauma is effecting the way you live your life, come and talk to us.
